SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Director of Clinical Informatics, provides clinical informatics function including effective use of information systems in clinical areas, providing a state of the art information technology experience for the academic program, and fostering effective use of clinical information for clinical research. Is responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the principles of the Brown University Health Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct. Meets with personnel from user departments, information services staff and vendors to define and resolve application system problems, most often of complex nature. Develops specifications for software applications; designs, tests, and documents software programs using standard methodologies. Tests and updates software products with new releases. Studies trends in clinical informatics to implement applications that increase efficiency in patient care and provide opportunities for improvement in patient safety and quality of care. Develops standards and rules in the use of medical terminology in clinical applications to assure semantic interoperability within the health system and with the external community. Evaluates and approves clinical content for inclusion as best practice advice to clinicians as they use the clinical systems. Coordinates with programming teams through analysis of complex problems and the development of the most efficient solutions. Functions as clinical resource to staff, providing guidance and counsel to staff on work activities. Uses informatics tools to support the reduction of risk in clinical operations while minimizing and mitigating additional risk arising from IT systems implementations. Leads, facilitates, and/or participates in various clinical advisory groups, quality improvement teams and other multi-disciplinary teams in the design of clinical systems that support excellence in patient safety, quality of care and research. Serves in consultation capacity to conduct information flow analysis and feasibility studies and provides alternates and recommendations to address specific departmental needs for information and technology- based solutions. Works with the Brown University Health Training Team to coordinate the preparation of manuals and training materials and training of user personnel in the use of systems and modifications to systems. Provides functional guidance to other information systems staff on a project basis. May assist in the orientation and training of new personnel, providing guidance to staff on job-related activities, department policies and practices and the like; appraises manager of status of orientation activities and related job performance. Regularly coordinates work activities of programming team assigned on project basis, most often of a complex nature; includes assigning work, directing work and evaluating job performance on team. Identifies and communicates systems issues and proposes alternatives and solutions to information services management. May be assigned responsibility for managing complex information services multi-disciplinary, multi-entity projects, including project planning, task assignment and project implementation. Develops, tests and implements builds in the Epic system within area of expertise or certificate, as needed by IS management. Delivers and evaluates training programs in support of successful system implementation and optimization, utilizing methods that meet or exceed established training standards Delivers presentations to senior management and management forums. Participates in ongoing independent study, education-related professional activities and affiliations to maintain advanced level of knowledge in field of information services. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Bachelor's degree in a clinical field required. Master's degree in Nursing, Health, or Clinical Informatics and/or graduate certificate in Healthcare Informatics preferred. Combination of computer-related technical training andprevious experience with an electronic medical record system preferred. Must work well independently and be able to manage projects and timelines. EXPERIENCE: Five years of recent clinical experience. Experience should demonstrate high level of written and oral communication skills, ability to effectively lead multi-disciplinary work teams assigned to complex projects. Demonstrates ability to solve complex business problems and follow through to completion, including knowledge of healthcare, technology and general business. Experience preferably gained in similarly complex environment. INDEPENDENT ACTION: Performs independently within broad scope of department policies and practices; generally refers specific problems to the Chief Medical Informatics Officer only where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None.

Pay Range:

$84,701.34-$139,761.44
