Job Description

VCI is currently seeking an onsite full-time Construction Manager - Senior Architectural Engineer for the Dallas VA Medical Center at 4500 South Lancaster Road, Dallas, TX 75216.

Required Qualification:
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in both design and inspecting construction
  • Be able to pass a background check that includes validation of at least 3 years living in the US.
  • Eligible to work in the US.
  • Have a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Owner's representative experience for the federal government
  • Design and construction management experience for medical facilities
  • Architect license preferred (or actively pursuing licensure)
  • 15 years of practicing architecture
Other Skills and Knowledge:
  • Experience reviewing design and construction plans against existing site conditions
  • Experience resolving unforeseen site/design conditions and proposing cost-effective technical solutions
  • Experience conducting inspections and inventories of medical and administrative service structures
  • Knowledge of outfitting and activation of medical facilities, including equipment planning and installation
  • Ability to provide take-offs for contract modifications to assist cost estimator
  • Ability to determine compliance of workmanship, materials, and installed work with contract requirements and industry standards
  • Working knowledge of building, safety, and environmental codes
  • Familiarity with environmental, civil, safety, architectural, and structural disciplines
  • Knowledge of governmental contracting procedures, principles, guidelines, and public law
  • Knowledge of Construction Contract Documents including Front End and Technical Specifications and Drawings
  • Skilled in code and regulatory requirements including environmental and historical applications
  • Knowledge of VA TIL, UBC, NFPA 101, UFAS, ADA, OSHA, and ASTM standards
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with construction management team
  • Basic knowledge of all engineering disciplines for hospital construction.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to brief owner during project update briefings.
  • Strong organizational skills to track projects, prepare meeting minutes, and meet required deadlines.
  • Most work will be completed during normal business with occasional night, holiday, and weekend required.
  • Must be able to communicate fluently in English.
  • Must be familiar with and able to use the Microsoft Suite of Services, including Teams, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, and basic Excel skills.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions, wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, walk long distances on rough and uneven surfaces, stand for long periods, lift construction materials to access inspections, climb ladders and scaffolding, and navigate typical civil construction site obstacles.
