DESCRIPTION
The Registrar maintains the official inventory of the Ellen Trout Zoo's animal populations. This position coordinates the zoo's centralized recordkeeping database, and animal transactions with other institutions, carriers, and appropriate regulatory bodies. The registrar is responsible for maintaining all permits related to animal care.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must possess a valid Driver's License Class C at time of placement.
Understanding of animal taxonomy and natural history preferred.
Experience in the care of non-domestic animals preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of and proficiency in using office software applications (Microsoft Office Suite) and the ability to adapt to new technologies and software platforms as needed.
Skills in strong oral and written communication; ability to produce and maintain written records.
Ability to assess and prioritize multiple tasks and demands.
Ability to problem solve in various circumstances.
Ability to interact positively with the public, supervisors and peers.
MAJOR DUTIES Manages and maintains both active and inactive animal records systems, ensuring data quality, appropriate retention, preservation and accessibility in compliance with AZA standards.
Enters data into Species 360/Zims database daily.
Manages all local, state and federal permits and licenses.
Collaborates with animal care on all animal transfers.
Transport animals to and from airports and other zoos as needed.
Manages animal census/ inventory processes.
Provides periodic updates to appropriate SSP coordinators and stud bookkeepers.
Serves as administrator of animal records database and primary liaison between the zoo and animal records software vendors.
Maintains documents and records needed for USDA inspection.
Maintains understanding and awareness of current industry recommendations related to animal record keeping.
Trains and assists animal care staff in entry of data into Species 360/Zims database.
