We're seeking a skilled Fire Alarm Designer to join our team and support the creation of high-accuracy fire alarm systems. You'll work on diverse projects, from residential high-rises to commercial spaces, ensuring compliance with local codes like FDNY and Nassau County Fire Marshal requirements. This role involves close collaboration with our president and clients to deliver top-tier designs using AutoCAD.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and draft fire alarm system drawings, including layouts over floor plans, riser diagrams, circuit designations, survivability levels, symbol legends, sequence of operations matrices, installation notes, and audibility criteria.
• Perform battery size and voltage drop calculations, as-built riser diagrams.
• Digitize plans from hard copies or PDFs into AutoCAD format.
• Assist with additional services such as field surveys, pre-tests, defect certifications, , and filings for variances or post-approval amendments (PAA).
• Coordinate with mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection plans to ensure seamless integration.
• Support expediting services, including preparation of TM1 applications and submissions to FDNY/AHJ.

Requirements

• Proven experience in fire alarm design and engineering (3+ years preferred).
• Expertise in AutoCAD is a must; proficiency in creating detailed, compliant drawings.
• Knowledge of fire safety codes and regulations (e.g., FDNY, NYC DOB, Nassau County).
• Strong understanding of fire alarm components, including panels, devices, circuits, and survivability.
• Ability to work independently in a small firm environment, with excellent attention to detail.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field preferred; certifications (e.g., NICET) a plus.
• Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Office and basic project management software.
• Must be located in or willing to commute to the Tri-State area (NY/NJ/CT).
