Job Summary
The IT Director is responsible for providing vision and leadership for developing, managing, implementing and maintaining information technology systems and initiatives to support our mission and operations while improving quality, decreasing costs, improving efficiencies, reducing the cycle time of workflows and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements The IT Director works closely with all department heads to constantly identify areas for improvement and to assist with on-going operations. The IT Director will oversee all aspects of BNHC’s technology strategy, including hardware, software, data security and network infrastructure.
Functions
Oversees the development and implementation of increased functionality in Epic, in coordination with CTC, with a goal of improving reporting and workflows while decreasing administrative burdens on clinical staff. Guides Epic Manager in interdepartmental Epic projects.
Leads cybersecurity efforts to identify, monitor and address vulnerabilities. Develops and implements an annual cybersecurity work plan and organization-wide staff cybersecurity training plan.
Ensures management of all system backups, disaster recovery plans, and business continuity processes for data integrity and availability.
Oversees the growth of the data network and telecommunications systems including providing redundancy for mission critical systems. Collaborates with community partners on joint IT ventures, providing leadership and representing the health center in community collaborative. Assists the Director of Quality & Compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations on an ongoing basis.
Ensures all applications are up to date with the latest recommended updates per vendor or manufacturer. Serves as a key member of the senior management team, advising on technology-related issues, budget planning and strategic initiatives.
Acts as the technical resource for programs such as UDS, MIIS, etc.
Oversees BNHC’s data analytics and reporting activities in support of clinical, operational and business decision-making.
Manages the technology budget for the health center. Looks across all departments to eliminate duplicated efforts and find areas where the application of technology will reduce costs.
Oversees IT department staff to ensure users requests are satisfied in a timely manner. This includes requests for training modifications to Electronic Health Records system, and computer equipment repairs. Ensures cross-training and cross-coverage of all IT functions.
Provides professional development opportunities and mentors IT department staff with an emphasis on outstanding customer service and cost savings.
Oversees all technology consultants and vendors.
Serves on internal and external committees to provide technological expertise on capabilities of BNHC systems.
Creates and updates all Information Technology department policies.
Maintain high ethical standards and ensure security and confidentiality of sensitive information.
Education/Experience
Minimum of eight to ten years of experience in managing or directing an IT operation. BA or MA in Information Technology or Business Administration preferred.
Minimum of five years’ experience in healthcare with an electronic health records system.
Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, networks and hardware management.
Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and data protection regulations.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
Working Conditions
Physical Demands: The individual must be capable of sitting at a desk for long periods. Occasional night and weekend hours may be required. Some travel required. Requires lifting of minor computer equipment. Visual acuity sufficient for frequent reading. Hearing acuity sufficient for holding conversation with or without assistance of audio devices.
