This is a fulltime onsite Portuguese Medical Interpreter position.

Position Summary: This position is responsible for supporting the provider-patient relationship, assisting patients in the primary care setting to assure effective communication and care, and for providing direct care and case management to ensure effective communication and care of service.

Program Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Interprets for patients without adding, omitting or editing what the patient or provider has communicated.
• Assists with walk-ins, pt. triage, registration, referrals and all other aspects of patient visit as needed.
• Helps providers to understand cultural differences, verbal and nonverbal, to facilitate communication between provider and patient and to assure quality health care.
• Accurately translates medical information in writing for health center staff.
• Assesses patients’ needs and provides advocacy information and referrals to other community agencies as needed.
• Completes patient care documentation or other health center required reports in an accurate and timely manner.
• Participates in projects relevant to case management and interpreter services duties.
• Any and all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Associate's degree or minimum two years of college in a related field
• Two years of relevant work or volunteer experience
• Medical Interpreter certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
• Fluency in English and another language common to our patient population
• Medical Interpreter training

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree

• Prior experience in healthcare or clinical settings

• Knowledge of medical terminology in multiple languages

• Experience with electronic health records systems

Reports directly to the Medical Interpreter Manager
