Job Description

The Sports Medicine Physician is responsible for providing specialized musculoskeletal and non-operative orthopedic care to a diverse population—from student athletes / recreational athletes to active adult orthopedic patients in an office environment. As the Sports Medicine Medical Director and Consulting Services physician for Bates College, this position will provide oversight and responsibility for the Bates College sports medicine program. Responsibilities include leadership and collaboration with Bates College staff for training needs & specialized sports medicine programs. Works according to Maine State Rules and Regulations following established Policies and Procedures as required and within established scope of practice. Must be a friendly, energetic and team-oriented person looking for a long-term commitment. Proficient use of an EMR system, excellent communications skills. The ideal candidate must be able to provide high quality care to orthopedic patients and be independent to make decisions. Essential Duties: Provide specialized musculoskeletal and non-operative orthopedic care to a diverse population—from student athletes / recreational athletes to active adults. Acting Sports Medicine Medical Director and Consulting Services physician for Bates College, this position will provide oversight and responsibility for the Bates College sports medicine program. Responsibilities include collaboration with Bates College staff for training needs & specialized sports medicine programs. Collaborate with orthopedic physicians, physical therapy, and other team members in a dynamic, integrated care setting. Responsible for shared coverage for Bates College Sports Med program, this includes evaluation and treatment of athletes in the Bates training room as well as game coverage as outlined in the Bates sports medicine contract. Weekly schedule includes 3.5 full clinical days in orthopedics, 1/2 day at Bates College Health Services & dedicated administrative time. Provide mentorship for residents during clinical hours of operations. Contribute to developing the best practices in sports medicine with a forward-thinking clinical environment. Lead and/or participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and care delivery. Provides patients and/or family with health education and counseling and referrals to appropriate healthcare professionals and community resources. Take appropriate action to recover from a service difficulty, ensuring that the necessary action is taken to affect a resolution to the customer’s problem. Conducts all work activities with respect for coworkers, including the maintenance of a pleasant and professional environment, fostering calmness during stressful situations. Interacts with supervisory personnel in a professional, supportive and courteous manner, venting emotions appropriate to time and place. Demonstrates a commitment to service by consistent attendance and punctuality, scheduling absences according to departmental requirements, and incurring unplanned absences only when unavoidable circumstances exist. Education and Experience: Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required. Current ACLS Certification preferred. Current PALS Certification preferred if caring for Pediatric patients. Current DEA with no restriction. Strong computer skills, including EMR/EHR.
