Radiation Therapy Assistant - Per Diem

The Radiation Oncology department supports patients undergoing radiation therapy by providing high-quality, compassionate care and ensuring treatment areas are safe, clean, and well-equipped. Staff work collaboratively to maintain clinical efficiency and enhance the patient experience throughout the treatment process.

The primary purpose of the Radiation Therapy Assistant position is to provide ancillary support to radiation therapists in clinical settings. This role contributes to the effectiveness and efficiency of patient care by assisting with preparation, treatment, simulation, and transportation tasks. The assistant also helps maintain a safe and welcoming environment for patients and visitors.

The ideal candidate has experience in a clinical or patient care setting, with strong communication and organizational skills. They are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate attention to detail in maintaining cleanliness and safety standards. Familiarity with radiation therapy procedures and equipment is preferred. Candidates should be dependable, proactive, and committed to supporting both patients and clinical staff.

This is a per diem position located in Houston, TX. Work schedule may vary based on departmental needs.

Hourly breakdown of salary range: Minimum $21.00 - Midpoint $21.00 - Maximum $21.00

Key Job Functions
  • Stock treatment vaults and simulators with necessary devices and supplies
  • Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of treatment areas and equipment
  • Assist radiation therapists with patient communication and preparation
  • Sanitize cradles and equipment per SOP
  • Support simulation and treatment procedures under therapist direction
  • Coordinate inpatient transportation and assist with patient transfers
  • Provide directions and assistance to visitors
  • Participate in safety rounds and quality control activities
  • Relay treatment delays to patients in waiting areas
  • Assist with device creation, documentation, and transfer logistics

EDUCATION
  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: Completion of a Radiologic Sciences program.
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: None
  • Preferred: Experience in a patient care or healthcare setting
