Job Description

The Talent Acquisition Leader, Medical Affairs CPEAO, is an experienced full-cycle Talent Acquisition expert responsible for sourcing strategies and programs to meet critical business needs across the Medical Affairs organization within Vertex. This role is pivotal in developing, executing, and integrating recruitment strategies to attract and retain top talent across headquarters and regional offices. Reporting to a Senior Director, TA, and being part of the extended Global Talent Acquisition Team, this position involves leadership, strategic planning, and hands-on recruitment activities.

The Director / Associate Director, Talent Acquisition, provides vision, leadership, and team management to implement effective talent acquisition programs and best practices. This includes strategies for attracting, sourcing, and developing hard-to-find talent, and filling niche roles. The role drives performance across all talent acquisition disciplines such as talent insights, mapping, sourcing, branding, assessment, and offer negotiation.

The role also involves navigating the evolving landscape of recruitment, especially with the rise of AI technology, passive talent engagement, diversity attraction, and humanizing the recruitment process. The leader will oversee a team of proficient RPO recruiters and sourcers focused on critical hiring needs.

This position is based in Boston, MA (Seaport area) with a hybrid work arrangement: 3 days in-office and 2 days remote weekly.

Key Duties and Responsibilities :

  1. Act as a trusted relationship manager to assigned client(s), working closely with HR Business Partners to understand workforce plans, capability requirements, and diversity goals.
  2. Provide strategic talent acquisition support and counsel to business leaders, leveraging workforce trends and best practices.
  3. Communicate functional requirements to recruiters, monitor progress, and ensure value-adding practices.
  4. Lead and develop relationships with diverse, highly qualified industry talent, especially for senior roles.
  5. Partner with leadership and Talent Intelligence to build talent pipelines for current and future needs.
  6. Enhance team capabilities through training and development for operational excellence.
  7. Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and innovation within the team.
  8. Manage vendors and external partners to deliver diverse high-quality talent.
  9. Develop sourcing strategies, pre-screen candidates, and deliver qualified candidates for evaluation.
  10. Collaborate with hiring managers on interview processes and role definitions.
  11. Expand networks and attend events to identify top talent.
  12. Negotiate offers and close candidates effectively.
  13. Provide regular updates and manage recruitment processes efficiently, balancing costs and needs.
  14. Coordinate with HR teams on strategies for hard-to-find talent.
  15. Participate in cross-functional projects to build a top-tier talent acquisition organization.
  16. Enhance employer branding to position Vertex as the “Employer of Choice”.
  17. Ensure excellent candidate experience throughout the recruitment process.
  18. Maintain credibility of the Talent Acquisition brand internally and externally.

Basic Requirements :

  1. Minimum 10 years of experience with at least 5 years in leadership managing teams.
  2. Experience supporting medical or scientific teams, ideally within Medical Affairs.
  3. Proven success in developing and executing recruitment strategies in Medical Affairs.
  4. Strong grasp of recruitment metrics and analytics.
  5. Leadership skills to motivate and lead a high-performing global, matrixed team.
  6. Excellent communication skills for cross-functional and executive interactions.
  7. Deep knowledge of recruitment laws, practices, and customs across global markets.
  8. Expertise in talent acquisition best practices and leadership in the field.
