Job Description

Johnson County Airport Commission (JCAC) is looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of Airport Maintenance Specialist. JCAC is responsible for the operation and maintenance of grounds and facilities at two airports, a short line railroad, a water distribution system, airport fleet services, and a business park. This specific position will be assigned building and facility maintenance. Posting will remain open until filled.

Job duties include the following:

    Performs routine and non-routine semi-skilled tasks under limited supervision in the completion of general maintenance tasks supporting operations of airport facilities, water systems, fleet services, and rail services; performs maintenance duties such as painting, light plumbing, cleaning shop and equipment areas; builds, fixes, and maintains fencing; completes routine preventative maintenance on building/plant equipment; assists skilled workers in completing a variety of skilled tasks in other functional areas.
  • Performs general facility and grounds maintenance functions requiring operation of powered equipment, vehicles, and tools; uses a variety of small and large tools and operates a variety of light and medium duty equipment and attachments including: tractors, trucks, dump trucks, water trucks, skid steer loader, power broom, and snow removal equipment; performs pre-trip inspections of trucks and equipment; completes commercial mowing and snow removal; applies chemicals and spreads fertilizers, herbicides and soil amendments; aerates and seeds landscaping; trims and prunes shrubs and trees; repairs soil erosion; collects trash from grounds areas and recycling from office areas to dispose of accordingly; completes pavement patching and crack sealing.
  • Works in and is trained in at least one operational area within the airport such as airfield operations, facility operations, supporting specialized staff in water or wastewater system operations, fleet services, or railroad operations as a conductor; assists with special projects and serves as a subject matter expert in areas of personal mastery and expertise such as lighting, plumbing, or HVAC. Examples of work in airfield operations include completion of daily safety inspection checks of movement areas and coordinates resolution of problems identified with supervisor, performs repairs and maintenance on airfield lighting, pavement, and t-hangars, and coordinates with Control Tower Supervisor on any pavement issues that would impact aircraft operations.
  • Provides general customer service to various airport customers and coordinates repairs and project work with contractors.
Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Class B CDL with an acceptable driving record
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to work assigned shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Successful completion of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) ACE/Airfield Operations course within two years of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of related experience in airport, facility, or airfield operations
  • Experience with electrical systems troubleshooting and repair
  • Knowledge of and experience with FAA Part 139 airport certification requirements, inspections, and regulatory compliance
