Guiding Light Academy is a non-public, ISBE-approved facility/therapeutic day program that provides intensive academic and therapeutic services to students 5 years of age through 21 years of age diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Other Health Impairment, and other Developmental Disabilities.
*Position: Instruction Coordinator (K-12)*
Location: Guiding Light Academy West (Shorewood)
Position Type: Full-time, Monday-Friday 8:00 am-3:30 pm
Salary: $75,000-$85,00 per year
Supervision: Reports Directly to the Principal
*Minimum Job Description *
* Bachelor’s Degree in special education; Master's Degree in Special Education preferred
* 3 years of professional experience in teaching Special Needs Students
* Current State of Illinois Professional Educators License with LBS1 Endorsement
*Knowledge and Leadership Qualifications*
* Comprehensive knowledge of autism and educational principles, methods, and techniques that support the learning and growth of students with autism
* Strong knowledge base of K-12 core curriculum content and how to implement an integrated instructional program
* Knowledge base of transition curriculum, including WBLEs and vocational training
* Comprehensive skills to instruct education professionals in the ability to plan, develop, and implement curriculum and lesson plans
* Excellent communication skills, oral and written
* Strong attention to detail
* Ability to proactively create and implement a culture of collaboration and respect
* Demonstrate a high level of initiative and discernment to identify needs, problem-solve, identify solutions, and resources for action planning
* Demonstrate an understanding of high ethical standards, including respect for all, fairness, transparency, and sound professionalism
*Duties and Responsibilities*
* Consults with teachers on the use of formal/informal assessment and obtaining baseline data
* Trains and supports teachers in the use of formal assessment tools (e.g., ABLLS, AFLS, VB-MAPP, AIMSweb, EasyCBM)
* Provides feedback to teachers through direct classroom observation regarding the challenges a teacher may face with student programming and suggests additional teaching strategies and resources
* Provides induction support and mentoring to new teachers through classroom observations and scheduled meetings
* Assists teachers in understanding the importance of data collection and analysis in determining student progress and IEP goal development
* Strategically plans, creates, and implements ongoing staff professional development in collaboration with the Principal and Education Coordinator
* Uses resources within a budget and collaborates with teachers and administration in assessing programming needs
* In collaboration with the Principal and Education Coordinator completes ongoing research to find new appropriate curriculum resources, in addition to the creation of Guiding Light Academy's specific scope and sequences
* Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned on an ongoing basis
